A study of the environmental and socio-economic dynamics in Aceh Tengah to identify actual and potential impacts and opportunities for the coffee supply chain, with impact analysis and recommendations on the coffee value chain to reduce deforestation and improve smallholder coffee farmers’ livelihoods. The assignment covered productivity trend analysis from statistics and producer interviews, focus group discussions on livelihood strategies and alternatives, vulnerability context analysis (seasonality, shocks, trends) and household cash flow, identification of livelihood assets across the five capitals (financial, social, physical, human and natural), and a review of structures and processes through a gender lens, including evaluation of agroforestry schemes and regenerative agricultural practices.
