The GEF-7 Crop Diversity Conservation for Sustainable Use in Indonesia (CDCSUI) project aims to strengthen the conservation and sustainable use of Indonesia’s globally significant crop diversity, both in the wild and on farm. It addresses three core conservation challenges in Indonesia: uncoordinated policy support, limited capacity for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources, and restricted access to plant genetic material and related information.
The assignment covers the provision and management of Project Management Unit (PMU) personnel together with national and international experts under the Swakelola Type III scheme, ensuring efficient overall management, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the project in line with the Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWPB). The staffing complement includes a National Project Manager, Policy Specialist, Agrobiodiversity Conservation Expert, Indigenous Peoples Expert, Gender and Safeguards Officer, Market Value Chain and Private Sector Engagement Expert, Smallholders Capacity Development Expert, Knowledge Management and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Communication Officer, Community Consultation Support, 3 Provincial Coordinators, 8 Field Officers, and administrative, finance and procurement staff.
The project is structured around four components:
Implementation covers 3 provinces and 8 districts/cities — Central Java (Blora, Klaten, Magelang), Central Kalimantan (Kapuas, Seruyan, Lamandau) and North Maluku (Tidore Islands, South Halmahera) — focusing on five commodities: rice, taro, yam, nutmeg and clove. All activities apply the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), the Nagoya Protocol, and Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) together with Indigenous Peoples in the project areas.
